Hall 8

This hall concentrates on the international aspirations of eighteenth-century Venetian art, when it reached its highest point in terms of prestige in Europe. The wall at the end of the hall is dedicated to the marvellous pastels on paper of Rosalba Carriera, whose work is well represented in the Gallerie’s collections. The next wall offers a multiform view of Venice and its lagoon, exported abroad thanks to the work of Marco Ricci, Antonio Canaletto, and Bernardo Bellotto. The hall also contains the densely atmospheric and emotionally charged views of Venice by Francesco Guardi alongside Sebastiano Ricci’s and Jacopo Amigoni’s mythological scenes, which were much appreciated throughout Europe.
