This canvas depicts the final hours in the life of Mark the Evangelist before his maryrdom in Alexandria. Counterclockwise, in the aedicule on the right we are offered the episode of the sultan who had Saint Mark arrested; in the large, porticoed room in the central background area we have his capture during Easter mass; on the left we have Christ visiting Mark in his cell the night before his martyrdom.
