How was Veronese able to bring together more than fifty figures in the relatively small space of this canvas? To celebrate All Saint’s Day (Ognissanti), to which the church was dedicated, Veronese arranged prophets, apostles, evangelists, saints, and Fathers of the Church in decreasing semicircles hovering above the clouds. Up above, the Virgin is crowned and welcomed into Heaven by the Trinity. Her humility was an example for the Cassinese nuns, to whom the church belonged.
